Organizational Setting

The Department of Management (MT) provides a platform of services that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEAs scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose. Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.

The Division of Human Resources plans, acquires and manages human resources to help implement IAEA programmes. The Division delivers the full spectrum of HR services, including organizational development and planning, talent acquisition and development, performance management, and administration of compensation and benefits. The Division serves a multicultural workforce of approximately 2300 people from diverse scientific, technical, managerial and professional disciplines.

The VIC (Vienna International Centre) Medical Service serves the staff of all VIC Based Organizations (i.e. the IAEA, the United Nations Office of Vienna, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization), promotes the health of the staff of these organizations, provides for an occupationally safe and healthy work environment, and ensures that the UN Common System medical standards are maintained at the VIC. It renders services to approximately 4500 staff and dependants.

Main Purpose

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Head Nurse the Medical Service Aid performs all maintenance duties according to Standard Hygiene Measures within the Medical Setting to enable efficient day-to-day operation when extra services are required at the VIC Medical Service, as and when required. Meaning, the Medical Service Aid would be contacted on an as-need basis and at times at short notice.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Wash, clean, disinfect all instruments, equipment and fitting-out of all Medical Service Rooms, as required up to several times per day. Collect and be responsible for disposal of non-infectious and infectious waste.
  • Deliver materials for health campaigns and their set up. Assist in installation of stands and preparation of medical equipment and materials.
  • In case of emergency/sickness of a staff member or visitor assist in transportation of patients.

Education, Experience and Language Skills

  • Certified medical assistant/Pflegeassistenz or course on disinfection assistance. Certification must be recognised and registered by the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Healt, Care and Consumer Protection in the Health Profession Register ("Gesundheitsberuferegister").
  • Minimum of one year relevant working experience, in a medical setting.
  • Good oral and written command of English and German. And Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • English test to IAEA standard may be part of the process.

Working Conditions

  • On an on-call basis, when there is a need to cover for absences or there is additional workload.
  • Duration of contract will be number of days to be worked/contracted.
  • 8 hours per day, with early shift (06:30 15:30 hrs)
