Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent serves as a specialist with responsibilities to report on domestic and foreign affairs and policies that could include human rights, integration, and religious freedom, as well as Austrian and EU foreign policy, counterterrorism, and security and military issues. They perform broad and complex analytical research, reporting, and briefing duties for the Political-Economic Section, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), and Ambassador, advise the Political-Economic Counselor and Political Unit Chief, identify and develop professional contacts for the Section, and report directly to the Political Unit Chief.
Qualifications and competencies we seek:
We are looking for a pro-active team player, who has a strong political intuition, analytical skills in a cross-cultural, intergenerational environment, as well as the ability to develop and maintain a broad range of professional contacts. You should bring with you:
- A master's degree in international law, political science, international relations, journalism, or international security;
- 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in international relations, political party work, human rights advocacy or reporting, political research or analysis, and/or information gathering/management, and/or political media reporting, especially as a policy analyst or political analyst;
- Expert knowledge of U.S. and EU foreign policy, politics, and history;
- Specialized knowledge about the Austrian political system, issues, societal development, recent history, societal structures and media as well as political, social, and cultural NGO networks, influencers, and groups;
- Fluency in German and English;
- High level competency in MS Office Suite, interactive technology platforms, such as Zoom.
